LaVille Elementary School releases letter regarding student's skull fracture incident

LAKEVILLE, Ind. -- LaVille Elementary School officials sent a letter to parents on Thursday, regarding the Aug. 23 incident in which two first grade girls ran into each other resulting in one receiving a skull fracture.

In the letter, officials say when injuries occur, faculty and staff are trained to promptly inform parents.

Officials go on to say LaVille Elementary administration met with personnel from the Marshall County Sheriff's Department and Lakeville Police Department to review the situation.

According to officials, on the day of the incident, the school acted under the guidance of medical and safety professionals in a fast-developing situation in the minutes before the parent arrived.

The letter also states police reviewed camera footage from the day.

Both departments made the initial assessment that LaVille Elementary School handled the students' care appropriately, according to the letter released by school officials.

"Dear La Ville Elementary Community,

Our top priority at LaVille Elementary is ensuring the safety and wellbeing of every student. When injuries occur, faculty and staff are trained to promptly inform parents. Regarding the August 23rd incident, LaVille Elementary acted under the guidance of medical and safety professionals in a fast-developing situation in the minutes before the parent arrived.

LaVille Elementary administration met with personnel from the Marshall County Sheriff's Department and Lakeville Police Department to review the situation, which included reviewing camera footage, and both departments made an initial assessment that La Ville Elementary handled the student's care appropriately.

Lakeville Police Department further stated that "based upon the symptoms that were observed in both students involved, the school acted appropriately in caring for their individual needs. This included contacting parents to update them on the situation as well as to offer the opportunity to pick up their student and a recommendation for one of the students to seek medical evaluation for the student's symptoms."
