La Porte County unveils new list of items prohibited in court room starting Feb. 1
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Late last year, the La Porte County Board of Commissioners passed an updated list of items that will be prohibited in La Porte County Courthouses beginning on Feb. 1.
"The new prohibited list of items was recommended to the commissioners for consideration by a ‘Courthouse Security Committee’ that was comprised of county officials who had been meeting for several months," the sheriff's office said. "The new list of prohibited items aligns with rules set forth by the Indiana Supreme Court."
The following items will be prohibited beginning Feb. 1:
- Pen Knives
- Carpenters Knives
- Metal Kitchen Knives
- Any / All types of Pocket Knives
- Switchblades or any Spring-Activated Knives
- Box Cutters
- Coupon Razor Cutters
- Any / All types of Razor Blades
- Safety Razors
- Any pressurized flammable container
- Glass, Hair, and Body Spray
- Mace / Pepper Spray
- Cigarette Lighters
- Alcohol
- Vaping Devices
- Cellular Telephones
- Tablets
- Smart Watches
- Cameras
- Laptops
- Any other recording devices
- Key or Combination Locks
- Firearms
- Ammunition
- Fireworks
- Handcuff Keys
- Can Openers
- Flashlights larger than 6 inches
- Knitting Needles
- Laser Pointers
- Letter Openers
- Nails / Screws
- Screwdrivers
- Scissors
- Wire Cutters
- Wrenches
- Metal Fingernail Files
- Pliers
Authorities say that if a La Porte County Sheriff's Office Courthouse Security Division Deputy deems a non-listed item to be dangerous at the Security Checkpoint, the item will not be allowed inside the courthouse.
