Kids quick-thinking move sends gunmen running

SOUTH BEND, Ind – Two gunmen stormed into a South Bend home late Wednesday night  demanding money, but when they noticed one quick-thinking kid  was already on top of the situation, they took off.

Police said a woman and four kids were inside the home on the 1100 block of North Lawrence Street when the hooded men kicked in the front door and attempted to rob them at gunpoint.
Officers said one of the kids snuck to a nearby phone to call police, while the armed men pointed a gun at the woman in the living room.
Officers said when the gunmen saw the child talking on the phone they ran out the front door.
When officers got to the scene, they  gathered fingerprints. But, police had not made any arrests as of Thursday morning.
Both gunmen were wearing hooded sweatshirts and the homeowner told police she did not recognize either suspects.
Police said the South Bend neighborhood is typically quiet, and officers are rarely called out to an armed home invasion in the area.
