NOW: Jr. Irish Soccer Club Memorial Day Invitational kicks off this weekend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend's hosting one of the largest youth soccer tournaments in the region this Memorial Day weekend.

The Jr. Irish Soccer Club’s invitational is not only bringing in hundreds of teams from across the Midwest but also honoring those who’ve served our country.

Miller Vets Color Guard will begin by raising the flag to full staff before lowering it to half-staff while “Taps” is played.

After the ceremony, attendees will recite the Pledge of Allegiance before officially kicking off the Memorial Day tournament.

The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Coach of Jr. Irish Soccer Club Henry Vu says it's a nice reflection to honor the sacrifice of our veterans.

"It's the same weekend as the Memorial Day holiday and Memorial Day holiday is just a time where people like to get together and to kick off this summer. We don't have that honor, that privilege without the sacrifices of our veterans throughout the century. We just want to honor those service men and women," Vu said.
