MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Daylight saving time ends Nov. 1, at 2 a.m., meaning it’s time to turn clocks back one hour as standard time resumes. The time change will bring earlier sunrises and sunsets across Michiana as daylight hours continue to shrink heading into winter.

The sunrise was at 8:11 a.m. on Tuesday. By next week, sunrise will shift back into 7 a.m., gradually moving closer to 8 a.m. before returning to 8 a.m. by mid-December.

Sunset times will also shift earlier. The sun currently sets at the 6 p.m. hour,  but sunsets will move into the 5 p.m. hour and remain there through the winter months.

This week, Michiana is losing about two to three minutes of daylight each day. By the start of November, the area will see about 10 hours and 22 minutes of daylight. By the beginning of December, that day length will decrease by an hour.

The winter solstice will bring the shortest day of the year, with about nine hours and nine minutes of daylight. After Dec. 21, daylight hours will gradually begin to increase as we head into spring.
