County officials announced Attorney Sarah E. Scoggin will take on the role. According to a release from the county, Scoggin has been an active attorney for 19 years, including 13 years managing her own law office. 

The county says the appointment will allow departmental functions to stay consistent while a formal replacement is found. 

This comes after longtime prosecutor Victor Fitz and all of the county's attorneys resigned over a variety of reasons, including what Fitz cited as low pay, lack of support, a toxic environment, and differing budget priorities.
