MICHIANA. -- Today is the DEA's National Drug Take Back Day, allowing people to safely dispose of expired or unwanted prescription drugs.
Indiana State Police participated in the event this afternoon, which happens twice a year, usually in April and October.
Several take back locations were set up all across Michiana, helping fight drug abuse that can happen by having expired medications in your home.
"It's good because, you know, so often people, they don't know what to do with them, so they just end up accumulating them. And this is a great opportunity for somebody to be able to know that it's going to be disposed of properly and taken care of and just take that burden off of them," stated Sergeant with Indiana State Police Ted Bohner.
ISP is reminding community members that while the drug take back event is over; there are still drop off centers available all year round.
