Indiana State Police investigating officer involved shooting in Michigan City

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police is investigating an officer involved shooting that happened at approximately 5:30 Friday evening. The Michigan City police department initiated a traffic stop in 5800 block of South Franklin Street.
During the stop an armed male fled on foot from the scene and officers initiated a pursuit, during this pursuit an officer discharged their firearm striking the suspect. The suspect was received first aid and was transported to Franciscan Health in Michigan City.
No further information can be released at this time as it is an active investigation.
