Indiana launches Firefighters PFAS Biomonitoring Pilot Program

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Firefighters in South Bend and across Indiana can now apply for the Indiana Firefighter PFAS Biomonitoring Pilot Program.

The pilot program analyzes PFAs, also known as 'forever chemical' due to their longevity and toxicity, levels in firefighters' blood. The test results are then used to improve safety procedures and better protect firefighter health.

Participation is voluntary and interested firefighters can begin by submitting their information online here. Those who submit their info should receive a follow-up application with further details.

If selected, applicants then receive an at-home testing kit which must be sent back within two weeks to receive prompt results.

The deadline to apply is August 9.
