Indiana Dunes officials warn of unsafe E. coli levels in certain areas' water

Indiana Dunes National Park

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. -- Officials at Indiana Dunes National Park are asking visitors to stay away from certain areas.

In a new release, park officials say unsafe E. coli levels have been detected in the water at multiple popular swimming spots. These include Mt. Baldy, Central, Dunbar, Portage Lakefront, and West Beach. Visitors are asked to not swim in these areas until further notice.

Officials say more testing will be done today, and results will be updated tomorrow. All other waters at the park have tested for safe water quality.

Beaches remain open to the public; park officials recommend remaining on the shore in impacted areas.
