Indiana Black Expo Elkhart Chapter hosts 10th Annual Feed our Friends dinner, seeking community's support
ELKHART, Ind. -- The Indiana Black Expo Elkhart Chapter expects its biggest turnout yet at its 10th annual feed our friends holiday dinner.
Volunteers are needed; if you’re interested in donating a food dish, you’re encouraged to prep and drop it off to the Historic Roosevelt Center at 215 E. Indiana Ave. before 1P.M on Sunday.
The chapter could also use help serving and cleaning up after the event.
The Feed our Friends Dinner has served more than 500 people each year, with its biggest turnout yet expected this time around.
Lots of resources the homeless population relies on have been impacted by the pandemic and now inflation.
Agencies supporting multiple organizations helping the homeless have had to spread money farther, causing some charities to cut back on resources offered or close altogether.
With resources going down, events like this one become that much more important.
To help combat the growing need, a food pantry will also be provided this year by Cultivate Food Rescue.
Neighbors will get to take home a variety of items from bread to frozen foods, as well as donated Christmas gifts and blankets for kids.
While the big motivation is to feed some of the city’s homeless population, no one needs to feel singled out coming to the dinner because anyone can show up for a plate, not just the less fortunate.
