Indiana 7th District State Representative race between Jake Teshka and Oliver Davis remains last local race too close to call
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Two days after the 2026 midterm election and one local race is still yet to be called. Indiana's 7th District State Representative race between Republican incumbent Jake Teshka and Democrat Dr. Oliver Davis who also serves on the South Bend Common Council.
With 99 percent of the vote in, Teshka is in the lead by just 247 votes. The southwest part of St. Joseph County and small portions of LaPorte and Marshall counties make up Indiana State House District seven and more than 20,000 people voted in this race on Tuesday.
We reached out to incumbent Jake Teshka who declined to speak today but Democratic challenger Oliver Davis says waiting for the results is nerve wracking but he's at peace as he waits for the final tally.
"We're dealing with St. Joe County, we're dealing with Marshall County, and we're dealing with LaPorte County. We're dealing with two different time zones, and so the situation is going to be a little different. Each area had its own challenges and issues. I congratulated him. And then I said, 'you may have to turn around and congratulate me because this thing is so close.' So, I wished him and his family well," shared Davis.
We also asked Davis what's next if he loses this race.
"We still have the city council. We still have a lot of issues that we are working with the city council. We are still there to fight for the people of South Bend, Indiana. No matter where we are going to be, we love this area. We're going to continue to serve the people of South Bend, whether we are served on the South Bend Common Council or whether we're going to serve in the State House."
There are 53 precincts for this race, and we are waiting on two. ABC57 asked both candidates if they will request a recount. Davis says all options are on the table since he is currently losing the race.
