Illinois man arrested on drug, weapons charges following traffic stop on Indiana Toll Road
La Porte County Jail: Patrick Wright LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A 22-year-old Flossmoor, Illinois man is facing drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop Wednesday on the Indiana Toll Road.
The Indiana State Police reports a trooper made a traffic stop on a 2017 BMW around 8:36 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile-marker 50 in La Porte County.
Police say the stop was made due to the BMW having no taillights.
The report states the trooper smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the car while speaking with the driver.
A subsequent search of the BMW resulted in the discovery of suspected marijuana and a loaded Glock .40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine which was found to be reported as stolen out of Illinois.
Police inspected the gun and found it to be equipped with a "switch" that makes the semi-automatic gun function as a machine gun.
These discoveries resulted in the arrest of the BMW's front seat passenger, Patrick Wright.
Wright is charged with for Possession of a Machine Gun without a License, a Level 5 Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Dangerous Person, a Level 6 Felony, Theft of a Firearm, a Level 5 Felony, Possession of Marijuana, a Class B-Misdemeanor, and Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class C-Misdemeanor.
Wright was taken to La Porte County Jail.
