Humidity explainers
We’ve been seeing these really humid conditions in Michiana since yesterday, and throughout most of the summer. Most times it has been this humid this summer it is due to a high-pressure system to our southeast, like during the heatwave we saw at the end of June. High pressure systems push air out in a clockwise motion and when you’re in the top corner, you're usually seeing what is to the south of you. Thus, we have a lot of warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico making its way up here right now. And as Emmett said we’re getting hotter and warm air can hold more moisture, so it will likely stay humid like this until Thursday.
While your windshield fogging up is usually a winter problem, it can happen in summer too, for the same reason, just inverted. Warm air on one side and cool air on the other side of a surface is how we get condensation, just like a cold drink on a hot summer’s day. At any time when your windshield gets foggy, the way to get rid of it is to equalize the temperature in your car to what’s outside. Turning on warmer air or rolling down the windows usually helps in the summer, your wipers can also be of service to get the condensation on the outside.
