On our latest Holiday Heroes, we’re shining a spotlight on the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan, a shelter that is transforming the lives of animals with troubled pasts.
Julie and Steve Heyn are one of the many couples who can pinpoint one light in the midst of COVID-19 and working from home: their decision to add a member to their family.
"It was the week of the Berrien County Youth Fair and we happened to be in the car at the same time and the Humane Society was open. So we stopped, we looked through the book and Julie picked out Bobby," Steve said.
Bobby had been at the shelter for four years.
"To see the dogs that are adopted is the reward, it's their forever home," said Julie Gast, Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan.
