SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and Saint Joseph County is set to review two nominations for the National Register of Historic Places listing Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers in the County-City building.

“The opportunity to review National Register Nominations to help in the process of listing historic properties on the registry is one of the most important responsibilities the Historic Preservation Commission has,” said Historic Preservation Administrator, Ross Van Overberghe. “It’s really more of a privilege to recognize these places for their historic, architectural or cultural significance and to share that with the public.”

The two properties that are under review are the J.D, Oliver House and grounds located at 808 West Washington Street and the Bowman Creek Arch Bridge at Lincoln Way East.

The History Museum will be hosting a 'The History Museum's Insights in History' on Oct. 2 at 1:30 p.m. by Curator of Copshaholm, Skylar Whited, who chronicles local industrialist J.D Oliver's accomplishments.

A tour of Copshaholm's exterior will be offered, including a close look at the historical marker.

Admission to the lecture is $3 or $1 for members and reservations are required by Sept. 30 to attend.
