Explore the prairie on a hike on Sept. 11 at Boot Lake Nature Preserve.

GOSHEN, Ind. – The Elkhart County Parks will offer a guided prairie hike at Boot Lake Nature Preserve on Friday, September 11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Now reclaimed from the City of Elkhart’s sludge farm, Boot Lake Nature Preserve is dedicated to protecting Indiana’s rare and endangered plants and wildlife.

Those in attendance will be required to wear a face covering, as well as practice social distancing during the hike.

The tour will highlight some of the unique botanical species found in the prairie, such as cup plant and compass plant.

Boot Lake Nature Preserve encompasses 300 acres of diverse wetland, forest, and prairie habitats, which host an abundance of flora and fauna.
