Hidalgo leads Notre Dame past Syracuse in home finale
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame pulled away late to beat Syracuse 72-62 on Thursday night in Atlantic Coast Conference women’s basketball action at Purcell Pavilion, handing the Orange a tough road loss.
Hannah Hidalgo led the Fighting Irish with a dominating all-around effort, finishing with 27 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and seven steals to key the victory. Cassandre Prosper added 16 points and seven boards, while Malaya Cowles chipped in 13 points as Notre Dame improved to 19-9 overall and 11-6 in ACC play.
Syracuse (21-7, 11-6 ACC) battled early with the Irish in a tightly contested game. The teams traded leads in the first half before Notre Dame took a 37-32 advantage into intermission. The Orange pulled within a point in the third quarter, but the Irish regained control in the fourth, finishing strong with a 7-0 late run to seal the win.
The Fighting Irish capped off their regular-season home slate with a valuable win that bolsters their position heading into the ACC Tournament, while Syracuse’s offensive fight keeps the Orange in strong contention in the league standings.
