Here’s when you can use fireworks in your area for the Fourth of July
Many communities across Michiana have different time frames for when fireworks can be set off.
In Indiana, fireworks can be used within the following time frames. These times are protected by state law and cannot be banned by local ordinance:
- June 29 through July 3 and July 5 through July 9 between 5 p.m. and two hours after sunset
- July 4 between 10 a.m. and midnight
In Michigan, fireworks can be used within the following time frames:
- June 29 through July 4 between 11 a.m. and 11:45 p.m.
- July 5 between 11 a.m. and 11:45 ONLY IF July 5 falls on a Friday or Saturday

Berrien County follows Michigan state law. Fireworks are allowed at the following times:
- June 29-July 4
- 11 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.
- It is illegal to ignite fireworks on public property without permission
