Helping tenants fight back
SOUTH BEND, Ind- Things like flooding, mold, bed bugs, lack of hot water and heat are a reality for many living in South Bend.
Lack of heat and hot water at Cedar Glen, water damage at Miami Hills, and "tough living conditions" at Beacon Heights.
One resident at Cedar Glen, Todd Bogunia, wants to help tenants fight back.
He's encouraging people to attend an event held by The Volunteer Lawyer Network at the Roger B. Francis Library from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday.
There, tenants can get legal advice and help understand what their rights are.
“Where I live, I've been going around checking up on neighbors. A lot of them are scared to speak up so I'm doing this for everyone, not just for me, not just Cedar Glen, I want Miami Hills, Beacon Heights, Karl King, anyone who's scared to speak up,” said Bogunia.
The South Bend Tenant Association is also hosting a meeting on February 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at River Park for Cedar Glen residents.
They say soon they will announce meetings for Karl King and Beacon Heights residents.
Roger B. Francis Library is located at 52655 N Ironwood Rd. in South Bend.
