Harbor of Hope hosts grand opening of basketball court with youth tournament

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – The Harbor of Hope Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Benton Harbor is holding a basketball tournament on September 6th for teens to celebrate the grand opening of the new RISE UP basketball court.

The new court was created in an effort to bring the community together using the power of a beloved sport. It is a full size, high school regulation court.

The lead pastor of the church, Pastor Taurus Montgomery, has said that basketball saved his life and has built a curriculum to use the game to change the lives of the people in his community.

There will be free food and giveaways as well as the opportunity to sign up for a basketball camp.

The tournament is free to the public for ages 15 and up, but online registration must be done beforehand.

Those that wish to play must register a team of six players and no player may be on multiple teams.

The tournament will feature eight teams in a single-elimination style, all fighting for a championship trophy.

Registration ends, and the tournament begins, at 3 p.m. at 769 Pipestone Street.
