UPDATE: The South Bend Police Department has confirmed that one person has died as a result of shooting injuries Wednesday afternoon.

"A shooting this afternoon on South Bend's southeast side is now being investigated as a homicide," SBPD said. "Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The male was transported to the hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced deceased. His name is being withheld pending next-of-kin notifications."

The South Bend Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit is investigating this homicide and there is no current active threat associated with this incident.

ORIGINAL: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department is responding to an active scene this afternoon after reports of a shooting.

"We are currently responding to a shooting in the 800 block of E. Indiana Avenue," the SBPD said. "There is not currently an active threat to the immediate area. We are asking people to avoid the area as the investigation continues."
