A sloppy, wintry day, Thursday
SAWYER, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Surf and Rescue Project (GLSRP) had their Open Water Surf Lifeguard In-service Training on Friday.
The training was for Bethany Beach and New Buffalo lifeguards and took place at the Bethany Beach Community House and Bethany Beach.
The first part of the training consisted of classroom material such as current, surveillance, CPR and more.
The second part of the training allowed the lifeguards to experience life-like rescue drills on the beach and in the water.
“Water is something we don’t do a lot of training and education on but it’s the most thing we use. For example, we teach kids about fire drills, we teach kids about tornado drills, but do we really teach kids about drowning?” Beach Committee Head, Alane Church said.
