Governor Mike Braun addresses Indiana's limited electricity production
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- On Tuesday, Indiana Governor Mike Braun spoke in South Bend at the Heartland Maritime and Defense Forum at Innovation Park off East Angela Boulevard.
He discussed the Hoosier state's economic growth and Indiana's position as a critical defense industry manufacturing hub.
Braun stated "We produce only 20 gigawatts of electricity. I was floored that we were having that conversation six months ago.
One data center can use up to a gigawatt and all the issues that we can't contend with to terms of cost of things. You know, politically now, affordability is the big thought work. Well, that's probably what I put as the main plank in a platform of growing a business nearly 15 to 20 percent a year for 37 years without borrowing a penny.
You've got to get back to that, because I could tell you our foes across the country, the world, the world, they are investing, they are saving, they're going to do the things that I think is going to take to have the grit to pull off what we're all talking about here. I'm optimistic, was optimistic, when I chose not to do the second term in the senate because I viewed there was more opportunity here. Running an enterprising state, my goal is to put Indiana in a position to take advantage of it. We had a good relationship with the administration those six years, the first two of which I think are paying off. Now, buckle up. Stay tuned. I want to hear from your individual businesses. You can visit me at the statehouse, at the residence. Take a road trip to southern Indiana. It's only 45 minutes south. I can't wait to see what we can all do together, and I hope they're talking about us in Indiana. And stay tuned. I think it will all work out. And I invite you, like I just said a moment ago, to keep in touch with me and see how we can all do it together."
