Gobles High School student arrested for allegedly taking gun to school

GOBLES, Mich. -- A Gobles High School student was arrested after allegedly admitting to taking a firearm to school, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to the high school Friday morning for reports of a student possibly carrying a handgun.

When they arrived, deputies learned the student did not have the gun with him, but admitted he had brought it to school previously, reports said.

The student said he carried the gun for self-defense, deputies said.

The handgun was located at the student's home and seized as evidence.

The student was taken into custody.

His identity is being withheld pending arraignment.
