Frost likely, with a freeze possible this week

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The first frost or possibly even a freeze is on the way this week.

A cold front moving through Sunday evening will bring in the coldest air since late April to Michiana.

Climatologically, Michiana is also in the time of year when our first frost arrives.

Last year, we had our first frost on October 22nd.

It looks like Thursday morning is our best chance in South Bend to see frost, and maybe a freeze.

Rural areas away from Lake Michigan could see frost Tuesday through Thursday though as clouds will be less prevalent there.

Plants and vegetation that are sensitive to cold will need to be put inside or covered this week as cold air punches into Michiana.

A warming trend exists later this week which will keep lows in the 40s by Friday.
