SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame’s season opener against Miami is days away, and for the first time since being named the starter, freshman quarterback CJ Carr spoke out.

The young signal-caller edged out Kenny Minchey for the QB1 spot, and all eyes are now on him as the Irish prepare for a top ten showdown on the road.

While Miami leans on experienced veteran Carson Beck — a two-time national champion — Notre Dame is putting its faith in Carr, who hasn’t started a college game yet. Despite the gap in experience, teammates and coaches say they believe he’s ready for the moment.

Wide receiver Will Pauling praised Carr’s poise, saying that while he may be new to the college stage, “You wouldn’t guess that at all. He’s very confident not only in his play but in how he leads.”

Fellow receiver Jordan Faison backed that up, adding, “They’re going to see a dog out there. Competitive, relentless…he knows how to handle himself.”

Carr’s résumé speaks for itself — a former four-star recruit, ranked among the nation’s top 50 players in the Class of 2024.

Head coach Marcus Freeman described him as an intelligent player, sometimes even too confident, but praised his ability to quickly shake off mistakes. And the Irish won’t leave him stranded.

Carr will be backed by a loaded backfield featuring Jeremiah Love and Jadarian Price, plus an experienced offensive line rebuilt to give him time to grow into the role.

Now, it’s go time. No. 6 Notre Dame heads south to face No. 10 Miami in one of the most anticipated openers of the year.

Kickoff is set under the lights, and the question is simple: can Carr make a statement in his very first start?
