Freepik SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The City of South Bend announced Monday that it will offer free Christmas tree recycling for all residents across January 2026.
From Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, to Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, scheduled Christmas trees will be picked up on the same days as trash pickup before being made into mulch and compost.
After scheduling tree recycling online or by calling 311, South Bend residents may place their non-artificial tree at their curb before 6 a.m. on their scheduled pickup day. They must remove all ornaments, lights, tree stands, and any metal, including nails.
Every South Bend household may schedule one tree for recycling, and additional trees can be recycled for $10 per tree.
The City of South Bend also noted that trees scheduled for removal after Jan. 29, 2026, count as that household's free monthly yard waste extra pickup.
