UPDATE: 21-year-old man identified in Benton Harbor shooting
UPDATE: The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety have identified 21-year-old, Demarius Porter, in the shooting that took place early Sunday morning.
Investigators determined the shooting occurred in the 700 block of Lavette Street. Initial calls for service referenced the 600 block of Columbus Avenue.
Porter was treated and transported at the scene by Medic One ambulance to Corewell Health in St. Josep, where he later died from injuries.
An autopsy conducted at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine in Kalamazoo determined the cause of death to be fatal injuries from gunfire.
This remains an ongoing investigation.
ORIGINAL STORY: BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- In the early morning hours of Feb. 1, officers with the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety responded to reports of shots-fired in 600 block of Columbus Avenue.
While canvassing the area, officers located a 21-year-old injured male.
The victim was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Detectives are actively investigating and no suspect has been identified at this time.
