UPDATE: Minimal environmental impact from fire at medical facility with hazardous materials in Warsaw
WARSAW, Ind. -- UPDATE: Chief Schilling reports minimal environmental impact occurred, with the majority of runoff water treated by the Warsaw Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Authorities add there's substantial damage within the facility.
Crews brought the fire under control by 2:27 p.m. and crews departed at 5:08 p.m.
ORIGINAL STORY: Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Chief Joel Shilling reports firefighters responded to an electrical fire at Danco Medical on Executive Drive in Warsaw around 11:52 a.m., Thursday.
The report states a nearby Warsaw Police Officer observed heavy smoke billowing from the medical facility.
Officials say due to the presence of hazardous materials inside the building, the Elkhart Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team and Indiana Department of Emergency Management also responded.
Authorities say the immediate area of 905 Executive Drive will remain closed for an unknown amount of time.
No injuries have been reported and there is no further risk to the public.
A formal statement is expected to be issued by Chief Shilling soon.
Winona Lake Fire Department, Lutheran EMS, and Warsaw Public Works and Wastewater Utility also responded.
