Felon caught in Niles with 21 firearms, large amount of ammo
NILES, Mich. -- The Cass County Drug Enforcement Team announced Wednesday morning that a 40-year-old man was arrested in Niles on July 15 after a traffic stop led to the search of his travel trailer.
Detectives say they received a tip about a known felon who was in possession of several firearms and possibly selling narcotics.
"The tip stated that the firearms were being held in a travel trailer in Howard Township. Detectives were able to locate the travel trailer," authorities said. "With the assistance of Pokagon Tribal Police, a traffic stop was made on the vehicle and travel trailer in the 2500 block of Lake Shore Drive in Niles."
During the stop, detectives were able to see through a bedroom window of the trailer where several firearms were laying on the bed.
The man was arrested for being a felon in possession of firearms and a search warrant was executed on the trailer.
"Inside, detectives located 21 firearms and large quantity of ammunition," authorities said. "After further investigation, it was learned that two of the firearms were stolen."
The man was taken to the Cass County Jail on firearms charges and his name is being withheld pending arraignment.
