Father sentenced to 22 to 50 years for starving son to death

Mia and Brian Morrow

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. - A father was sentenced to 22 to 50 years in prison for his role in the neglect and death of his eight-year-old son in May 2022, according to the Berrien County Prosecutor's Office.

Brian Morrow's sentencing comes just over a month after his wife, Mia Morrow, was sentenced for her role in their son's death.

The pair's son, Jaxson, was found dead by police in May of 2022.

Autopsy results found that Jaxson died from neglect. He weighed 31 pounds at the time of his death, the same weight he was at age three, according to reports.

Police found three guns and methamphetamine inside the family's home in St. Joseph but no medications for Jaxson, who had a disability and was supposed to be cared for by doctors, the prosecutor said.

Investigators learned Brian wanted to send Jaxson to a care facility upon reaching a point where they could no longer care for him but Mia allegedly refused.

The two were originally charged with first-degree murder.

Mia pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while Brian pleaded no contest to second-degree murder.

In both Brian and Mia's plea agreements, their first-degree murder charges were dismissed as well as separate charges for possession of methamphetamine.
