NOW: ’Father Bob’ gets to work at ’Inauguration Build 2024’

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- ABC57 News Anchor Brian Conybeare got a chance to speak one-on-one with Father Robert A. Dowd, the new President of Notre Dame University.

Known as "Father Bob" on campus, Dowd spent Tuesday morning as a volunteer construction worker at the Habitat for Humanity "Inauguration Build 2024" on Harrison Avenue in South Bend.

The event was in honor of Dowd's swearing in as Notre Dame's 18th president over the weekend.

They discuss a wide range of topics including Dowd's mission to "build bridges" at Notre Dame and beyond, including his take on the rising cost of college tuition, healing the divided U.S. political climate and how Dowd's mother made a major sacrifice to pay for her son's education at Notre Dame in the 1980s.
