Father allegedly shoots son in the head during argument

CASS COUNTY, Mich. --A father shot his son in the head during an argument while both were drinking, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to the home in the 11000 block of Van Buren Street at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The investigation revealed Cody Gonder, 29, had a firearm in a holster on his side when he and his father, 55-year-old Russell Gonder, got into a fight.

Russell disarmed Cody and threw the firearm to the side. Cody came back to assault the father, so Russell grabbed the gun and shot Cody in the head, according to deputies.

Cody was taken by ambulance from the scene, then was flown to a hospital in Kalamazoo. He is in critical condition.

Russell was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries received in the altercation. He has since been released.

The case remains under investigation.
