LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Berrien County Sheriff's Department responded to a call at approximately 3:45 a.m. of reports of a semi-truck vs pedestrian crash on eastbound I-94.

The truck driver stated he was traveling eastbound on I-94 when he noticed an animal in the roadway and could not avoid hitting it.  After getting out of his truck he found that he hit a person. An ambulance arrived a short time later and the deceased pedestrian was identified as 35 yr old Jose Henandez of Sawyer. 

Investigators found that Jose Henandez had been out walking some distance during the night and ended up on I -94 where he got hit. It is unknown why he was on the highway.  

It does not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in this crash and investigators are speaking with family member and friends and seeking phone records to help determine why the pedestrian was on highway.
