ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A non-profit in Elkhart is working to help adults build their financial knowledge and learn about things like credit or housing.
La Casa Inc. was recognized this year for its Master It Program, a series of financial education classes taught to inmates at the Elkhart County Jail.
The classes are paired with low-barrier banking and credit-building opportunities, including a free checking and savings account and credit builder loans for those who successfully complete the courses.
Not only do these classes help adults keep up with education, but it also builds confidence in the fact that they can make something happen for themselves financially once they are released.
La Casa Inc.'s efforts reach far beyond just the Master It Program though, serving mostly Elkhart County neighbors, but willing to help wherever need arises.
It can also rehab homes to turn into affordable rental properties, and repair or weatherize homes for low-income homeowners.
The organization is always looking for volunteers to help with home repairs, and no experience is needed!
You can also do a one-time or a recurring donation to help fund the non-profit’s community projects.
For more information about La Casa or how to donate or volunteer, visit its website.
