Elkhart homicide unit announces investigation into William Hensley's death
ELKHART, Ind. -- After the body found near the St. Joe River on the morning of Feb. 20 was identified as William Hensley, 43, of Elkhart on Friday, the Elkhart County Homicide Unit announced an investigation into the death Monday morning.
An autopsy was performed Feb. 23 and the death was ruled suspicious.
On Monday (Feb. 26) the Elkhart County Homicide Unit announced an investigation into the death.
"In late December of 2023, it was reported that William D. Hensley, of Elkhart, was missing. Due to some of the circumstances reported, the Elkhart County Homicide Unit started an investigation, engaging in numerous interviews, searches, and other investigative efforts. and investigation is ongoing," the Elkhart Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.
"The results of that autopsy are still pending. This case is considered to be an active and ongoing investigation; therefore, no additional details will be released at this time."
Police say he was officially reported missing on Jan. 18, but friends and family say he hadn't been seen since mid-December.
