ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Elkhart Community Schools is working to address the needs of the community after storms left damage in the area earlier in the week.
“We are devastated by the destruction that many of our families faced,” says ECS Superintendent Dr. Larry Huff.
Storms left damage at four Elkhart Community Schools with structural and electrical damage, in addition to the sidewalks and nearby properties.
Social workers are ready to assess how the district may be of assistance during recovery.
“We are working with government officials to assess the needs of our families and discover ways the district can offer support. We are also so grateful to our Elkhart Schools Facilities and Technologies Teams. Their tireless efforts have helped to restore power and repair damage. This means Elkhart Schools will be ready to welcome students for our Jumpstart program, scheduled to begin this coming Monday,” he added.
Food service sites at Monger Elementary and Hawthorne Early Learning Center will be open from tomorrow until August 2. Breakfast will be available from 8 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
