ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Chapter of Indiana Black Expo announced the launch of their "100 Black Sons Initiative" to honor its 50th anniversary.
It will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Beardsley Elementary School, located at 1025 McPherson Street in Elkhart.
The event, in partnership with Elkhart Community Schools, aims to connect 100 African-American men from the community with 100 African-American sons, in an effort to encourage and uplift the next generation.
"With the start of school just around the corner and summer coming to an end, the Elkhart Chapter of the Indiana Black Expo thought it was a good idea that the community got back to what we call each one-teach one," said Robert Taylor, President of the Elkhart Chapter of Indiana Black Expo. "What we want to do is get back to the village raising a child."
The itinerary for the event includes a free basketball camp hosted by Anthony Kyle, live music, a barbecue cookout, games, and one-on-one time with mentors.
The event is free to the public and tickets are available at eventbrite.com
