Dowagiac Police arrest two suspects after man fatally shot in Louise Avenue home

DOWAGIAC, Mich.—One man is dead after a break-in that resulted in a shooting, according to the Dowagiac Police Department.

Officers were sent to a home in the 700 block of Louise Avenue around 1:40 a.m. on Monday after receiving information via text message that a man had been fatally shot at the home.

Police found a deceased 40-year-old male victim from Dowagiac at the scene with an apparent gunshot wound.

During their investigation, police determined that two suspects had entered the home with the intent to rob the people inside of it.

The victim was then shot by the suspects, police said.

Three other people were inside of the home at the time of the incident. They were tied up by the suspects while the suspects searched the home for items to take, reports said.

The three people who were tied up eventually freed themselves prior to police arriving.

Police believe the incident was not a random act and that the home was specifically targeted by the suspects.

Officers identified a 38-year-old man from White Pigeon and a 41-year-old man from Kalamazoo as suspects. Both were taken into custody.

The White Pigeon man previously lived at the Louise Avenue home, police said.

Both suspects are being held at the Cass County Jail and their names are being withheld pending their arraignment.
