Delphi Murders Trial: What to expect at trial
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The jury has been selected in the Delphi murders trial. 16 Allen County residents to be sequestered in Carroll County where the murders of 13-year-old Abby Williams and 14-year-old Libby German took place.
The judge overseeing the case, Fran Gull, granted a change of venue in the trial, meaning the jury pool wouldn't come from Carroll County, where many in the tight-knit community are close to the case.
Though, it will still be tried where Nick Mcleland is the elected prosecutor, who will lay out his case against the accused, Richard Allen.
And it is still unclear what his defense will be.
Initially, Allen's team argued the murders were actually a ritualistic killing by Odinists, or Norse Pagans.
Judge Gull, after hearing the evidence in the Aug. pre-trial hearings, decided they couldn't make a connection between the cult and the scene of the crime.
The evidence is not permissible in trial.
What is allowed, are Allen's prison confessions, dozens of them.
Thursday Oct. 17, it will be decided whether the police sketches used in the investigation of this case, will be a part of trial.
The jury will be sworn in tomorrow morning, and opening statements are set to begin Friday.
