GOSHEN, Ind. -- The City of Goshen has invited community members to help decorate the city’s first Mirth Tree with homemade ornaments through December 20.

Residents are welcomed to visit the tree located outside of the Goshen Utilities Business Office, 203 South 5th Street, to hang up homemade ornaments.

The Mirth Tree was conceived in an effort to remind community members of the importance of waste reduction by using materials from around the house to create the ornaments.

On December 27, residents will be able to take one ornament off of the Mirth Tree. You do not have to take your contributed ornament.

The city also welcomes residents to take an ornament who had not originally placed one on the tree. The city says this helps inspire the holiday spirit by “accepting and giving without expectations.”

Participants are asked not to use glass, paper or cardboard materials for their homemade ornaments.

The Zero Waste Goshen Facebook Group will be posting ideas and examples that everyone can use as inspiration for their own ornaments.
