SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Cubs grabbed their first win of the season Tuesday in the home opener 5-3 over the Peoria Chiefs.
Starting pitcher Tyler Schlafer retired five batters and allowed two runs across fine innings in the win.
Johzan Oquendo earned the win, grabbing three K’s in just over an inning of play.
On the batting side, Cristian Hernandez and Brian Kalmer each had two hits on the night to help secure the win.
Despite the chilly temperatures, fans still had a great time cheering on the Cubs for the first time this year.
Whether it was hanging out by the fireplace, the bar, or getting a hug from their favorite furry mascots, fans found ways to keep warm and make new memories at Four Winds Field.
