Couple arrested following Tuesday morning police chase in La Porte County
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Tuesday at around 9:50 a.m., a Highway Interdiction Deputy was monitoring eastbound traffic on I-90/80 at the 56-mile marker when a vehicle, described as a white Jaguar, was found to be speeding excessively.
The report states the deputy then tried to initiate a traffic stop near the 62-mile marker.
Authorities say the driver failed to stop, which resulted in a pursuit which ended around the 72-mile marker.
Deputies say a Flock camera then captured the Jaguar several minutes later, traveling west on U.S. 20 from the area of the S.R. 2 "dog bone" interchange.
A nearby deputy then observed the Jaguar at the intersection of U.S. 20 and S.R. 39.
The report states a second deputy, just west of the intersection, then tried to initiate another traffic stop. Again, the driver failed to stop, leading to another chase, according to deputies.
The chase continued along U.S. 20 to I-94, with the Jaguar traveling west, then east, then west on I-94.
Authorities say the Jaguar finally stopped near the 28-mile marker. Both the driver and passenger then fled from the vehicle.
The passenger, identified as 28-year-old Adena R. Drury of Milwaukee, was captured and taken into custody nearby.
Deputies say the driver, later identified as 30-year-old Titus D. Long of Chicago, fled into a wooded area along the I-94.
Deputies were then assisted by a helicopter from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Aviation Unit, while a deputy and troopers from the Indiana State Police began searching for Long.
Long was then apprehended and taken into custody following a K9 bite.
Long was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment, while Drury was taken to the hospital for medical clearance.
Both were medically cleared and taken to the La Porte County Jail.
Long is charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, a Level 5 Felony (Prior) and A-Misdemeanor.
Drury is charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, an A-Misdemeanor.
