ORIGINAL STORY: EDWARDSBURG, Mich. -- A 41-year-old construction worker was injured Monday afternoon after being struck by a car near the intersection of US 12 and Adamsville Road.

The Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department reports officers responded to the scene at around 1:54 p.m.

Police say construction crews were working on the side of the road while flaggers were directing traffic.

The report states a 20-year-old Edwardsburg man was driving on US 12 when he attempted to turn south onto Adamsville Road, at which point he struck a flagger.

Police say the flagger was wearing his reflective safety vest at the time.

The flagger was treated on scene before being taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The 20-year-old driver and a witness driver behind him told authorities they didn't see the flagger due to the storm's heavy rain at the time.

Police say a report will be sent to the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
