Constantine Fire Department responds to structure fire

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. – On Wednesday evening, Constantine Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 600 block of E. Water St.

The owner of the house smelled smoke, and realized the back porch was on fire.

He attempted to put out the fire with a garden hose, but the fire spread quickly.

The owner evacuated the house and called 911.

Constantine Fire Department was assisted by Fabius-Park Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance, Constantine Police and White Pigeon Police.

A Constantine Police officer was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, and was released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but according to the Constantine Fire Department, the fire does not seem to be suspicious.
