SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A loose horse was reunited with its owner after walking along South Bend's side of the US 20/31 Bypass Thursday morning.

According to the South Bend Police Department, several people called 911 out of concern for the horse loose on the bypass. While the department worked to bring resources to the bypass to protect the horse, several more people were stopping to help corral the horse.

When officers arrived, the horse was surrounded and being offered hay to keep it calm during the stressful situation. From there, the officers were able to use their patrol vehicles to escort the horse and community members off the bypass so it could be reunited with its owner.
