ELKHART, Ind. -- The City of Elkhart, Elkhart Parks & Recreation, and the Elkhart Parks Foundation are celebrating the dedication of Edith Pasley Park.

The ribbon cutting and community celebration will be held on Saturday, August 8, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Formerly known as Ullery Park, its change is part of Mayor Rod Roberson’s Aspire Initiative.

"I remember coming to this park as a young man to watch some of the best basketball in Elkhart. Like so many people in this neighborhood, I have fond memories of Ullery Park."

Mayor Roberson continues to say, "I'm also proud that this park honors Edith Pasley, whom I had the privilege of knowing personally. She was a tireless advocate for those who were marginalized, both here in our community and across the nation, and her legacy continues to inspire us today."

The revitalization project was made possible through a partnership between the City of Elkhart, the Elkhart Parks Foundation, the Community Foundation of Elkhart County, private donors, and multiple community partners.

“It’s especially meaningful that a place with such deep roots in our community’s history will continue to serve future generations. Edith Pasley Park honors the past while creating new opportunities for families to connect, play, and build memories for years to come," said Jamison Czarnecki, Superintendent of Elkhart Parks & Recreation.

The ceremony will also feature food, a live DJ, and even ice cream.
