ELKHART, Ind. - A newly designed amphitheater -- which is still in the design phase -- could house up to 8,000 people.
During today's announcement -- officials hyped potential A-list talent and bringing a boost to the local economy. The city will kick off a capital campaign to raise funds for the project. Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson is optimistic this project will be a transformative asset for the city and region.
“And it will allow us to be able to bring thousands of people in our downtown and downtowns are really built around how do you attract density around activities that allow you to be able to take advantage of the assets that are already there and build upon those with additional opportunity which we will have so there are many amphitheaters around the Midwest but they won’t have one like this one,” said Rod Roberson, Mayor of Elkhart.
On Tuesday, at 5:30 p.m. at the Lerner Theatre, the city is hosting a forum to get input from the public on this new project.
