Cass County man convicted of criminal sexual conduct

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- A Cass County jury convicted Corey Roddy of criminal sexual conduct following a short trial.

The jury returned the verdict on Thursday afternoon after hearing testimony from the victim, who is now 18 years old.

The victim was 14 at the time Roddy forced her into intercourse using threats and manipulation, according to the Cass County Prosecutor's Office.

Multiple witnesses who testified corroborated her testimony.

“The victim is a strong and brave survivor who had the courage to step up. She suffered the loss of her childhood, panic attacks, worry, and the continuing fear of another molestation. But the jury verdict has restored her future," said Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Tiffiny Montenegro.

“Sadly, we have seen scores of child sex abuse victims testify over the years. This young lady was as authentic as they get," Prosecutor Victor Fitz said.

Roddy was convicted on two counts of criminal sexual conduct first degree and one count of criminal sexual conduct third degree.

Roddy is expected to receive a 25-year-prison sentence due to his past criminal history.

Roddy will be sentenced on August 13.
